«Armenia: Silence over a Genocide» Conference held in Rome

The event was organized by the Italian Union for Human Rights, International Association of Students of Political Sciences of Roma 3 University with the support of the Council of Ministers of Italy, as well as the Eurocommission mission to Italy, EP Office in Italy and Committee for Informing of For the Sake of Peace initiative, reported the Armenian State Commission for organization of events marking the 90th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

The event was a next one among a number of seminars, which referred to ethnic violence in the Balkans, genocides in Rwanda and Cambodia, the Kurdish issue in Iraq.

Armenian Ambassador to Italy Ruben Shugaryan addressed the event participants, that comprised over 200 students, 50 senior guests, officers of the Turkish Embassy in Italy, journalists. Speaking of the geopolitical situation in the South Caucasus the Armenian diplomat detailed the Armenian Genocide issue within the context of the current Armenian-Turkish relations, as well as the relations with Turkey within the process of its EU accession. The fact of Turkey holding a blockage against Armenia was noted.
