The city council of Ottawa has recently issued a unanimous decision to include the building of the Armenian embassy in Canada in the “List of Heritage” in Ottawa. This list includes high value buildings in terms of history and architecture of the Canadian capital.

Armenian foreign ministry press services report that from now on the building of Armenian embassy will be mentioned in tourist guides of Ottawa and will have an opportunity to organize Open Doors days for foreign and Canadian tourists. It will greatly enlarge the opportunities to evoke interest towards Armenia in Canada.

Today is 100th anniversary of the construction of Armenian embassy’s building in Ottawa. The facade of the building is the work of Canadian renowned architect Verner Nofkey (1878-0964) and is in the style of Spanish colonialism, which is very rare in Canada.

March 26, 2007
Press Release - Liberal Party of Canada

It was with great sadness I learned of the death of Armenian Prime Minister Andranik Margaryan on Sunday, March 25, 2007.

Throughout his nearly seven years as Prime Minister, Mr. Margaryan served his country as a passionate advocate of a strong, independent, prosperous and democratic Armenia.

On behalf of the Liberal Party of Canada, our Parliamentary caucus and all Canadians, I offer my heartfelt condolences to Mr. Margaryan's wife and three children, and to the people of Armenia, who have lost a man of great leadership and love for his country. May they all take comfort in the knowledge that we share their sorrow.
