What: 92nd Anniversary Commemoration of The Armenian
Genocide, “We Cannot Forget, We Will Not Forget” and a Memorial Service for Recently Assassinated Turkish-Armenian Journalist, Hrant Dink
Where: Times Square [Broadway between 43rd and 44th Streets]
When: Sunday, April 22, 2007 from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
This event is free and open to the public.
Why: To honor the 1,500,000 Armenians who perished at the hands of the Young Turk Government of the Ottoman Empire from 1915-1923 and to pay tribute to slain Turkish-Armenian journalist, Hrant Dink, who was gunned down outside his office in Turkey for writing about the Armenian Genocide. To increase public understanding and acknowledgment worldwide of the Armenian Genocide. To celebrate the survival of the Armenian people, their rich heritage, and their contributions.
Who: Organized by Mid-Atlantic Knights and Daughters of Vartan www.knightsofvartan.org. Co-sponsored by American General Benevolent Union www.agbu.org, Armenian Assembly of America www.aaainc.org, American National Committee of America www.anca.org, and ARMENPAC, the Armenian-American Political Action Committee www.armenpac.org.
Attending: Armenians in the tri-state including Armenian Genocide survivors, their families and non-Armenian supporters. Participants will include religious, political, historical, humanitarian, cultural, educational and community leaders from NY, NJ, CT, PA, RI, MA and PA. Speakers include John M. Evans, former US Ambassador to Armenia, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ and Manhattan District Attorney Robert M. Morgenthau, grandson of Henry Morgenthau, former American Ambassador to the Ottoman Empire during WWI, , U. S. Senator Charles E. Schumer (D-NY) and U.S. Congressman Anthony D. Weiner (D-Brooklyn & Queens).
