Bomb explodes outside Armenian newspaper, no-one hurt

Thu Dec 13, 2007

YEREVAN, Dec 13 (Reuters) - A bomb exploded on Thursday outside the offices of an Armenian opposition newspaper that is strongly critical of President Robert Kocharyan's administration.

No-one was injured in the blast, which blew out windows and damaged the doors at the Yerevan offices of the Chorrord Ishkhanutyun (The Fourth Estate) newspaper early on Thursday, police said.

"We think this is linked to our publications since we give responses to all unjust things," editor Shogher Matevosyan told Reuters.

Kocharyan has supported his Prime Minister Serzh Sarksyan in the February 19 presidential election but former president Levon Ter-Petrosyan is trying to win back power, raising tensions in the small Caucasus state.

The paper had written articles supporting Ter-Petrosyan. (Reporting by Guy Faulconbridge, editing by Myra MacDonald)
