ARMENIAN GENOCIDE RECOGNITION WOULD SURPASS ALL OTHERS

If the first genocide of the 20th century were recognized, the world would not face similar events any more. Many share this opinion. Yet, the world did not condemn to the fact that 1.5 mln. Armenians living in Western Armenia became the victims of massacres. 800 thousand people managed to survive through immigration and seek for shelters in Eastern Armenia as well as in different corners of the world.

The Armenian Diaspora is an indelible proof for the 20th century great crime which the Turkish criminal officialdom would not recognize and condemn to even nowadays. Though EU Council, Russia, France, some European countries, a few US states recognized the Armenian Genocide, yet the international world did not condemn to the first human extermination.

Activities aimed at international recognition of the Armenian Genocide started on April 24, in 1965. The 50th anniversary of the Genocide provoked a number of problems in Soviet Armenia. When Central Committee of Communist Party applied to Moscow with commemoration permission, a special committee was formed involving Suslov, Potgrony, and Gromiko. Though reluctant, they gave a positive answer. Hakob Zarobyan made a great deal for this issue. His efforts seem to be coming to its logical end: sooner or later Turkey would do nothing but recognize the Armenian Genocide.

Today, even the pouring rain could not prevent thousands of citizens of going to 'Tsitsernakaberd' and as usual they will mourn their ancestors, put flowers around the eternal fire, light candles and pray for their souls.
