ISTANBUL – Turkish Daily News

Friends and family were at the Virgin Mary Patriarchy Church on Sunday to remember Agos weekly's Editor-in-Chief, Hrant Dink, on the 40th day since he was burried on Jan 23 after being murdered at the hands of a 17-year-old right-wing nationalist.Turkish Armenians Patriarch Mesrop Mutafyan, speaking in Turkish and Armenian at the service, said it was a source of sorrow for all that the real culprits of the Jan. 19 murder were not caught.Among the guests at the sermon, on the second week of fasting before Easter, were Şişli Mayor Mustafa Sarıgül, Black Sea Economic Cooperation's Armenia representative Karen Mirzoyan, Turkish Daily News Executive Editor Eyüp Can Sağlık, author Elif Şafak, Yeni Şafak and Agos columnist Ali Bayramoğlu and TDN columnist Cengiz Çandar.Dink's friends and family wore black with a white scarf to show their sorrow.

After the sermon, those present were taken to Dink's resting place at the Balıklı Armenian Cemetery.Dink's suspected assassin, Ogün Samast, an unemployed 17-year-old middle school graduate, has confessed to shooting Dink outside the office of his bilingual Turkish-Armenian weekly, Agos, in downtown Istanbul on Jan. 19. Prosecutors have yet to complete their indictment in Dink's murder, believed to have been committed with ultra-nationalist motives.

Interior Ministry inspectors are looking into allegations that police got a tip-off last year that a plot to kill Dink was being organized in Trabzon, where most of the suspects come from, but did not follow up on the intelligence.
